Sleeping beauties

Although Becca and Elle share a room, Elle for the most part sleeps in "mommy daddy bed". Elle is turning into a rocker and a roller when she sleeps making her a terrible bed buddy. Through out the night she is kicking the covers off! Even Dan gets cold! To help Elle make a transition out of my room into her own Becca offered to share her bed with Elle. Becca was so excited about the plan that she took down the crib! Now Becca's mattress is on the floor to make this whole thing a little safer. Elle still falls asleep with me (bad mom, I know) then we move her into her room with Boo. Even when Becca is already a sleep they snuggle in quickly together.

To practice for his spelling test we told Xander to spell his words with legos. Dan and I thought he word spell them one dimensionally, flat on the board. Leave it to our lego master to take his lego building to the next level. Xander is so creative!

Piggy back ride

Xander is such a loving brother and son. Elle was giving Dan and I a hard time while we were making dinner. Super hero Xander came to our rescue! He swooped in on Elle and started to play with her. They love to play cars together. Then Eleanor, being the almost 2 year old sister that she is, sat on Xander's back. Making the best of the moment he started to try and give her a piggy back ride. Emphasise on the try. They would only get a few strides before she would fall off again. It was impossible to get a clear picture because they were laughing so much. Such joyous smiles on their faces.

Xander's 8th Birthday

Xander was coming out of his math classroom when I was waiting outside for his class birthday time. He did the cutest double take. It was so fun to watch him with his friends.

Maddie put clues to a birthday scavenger hunt in balloons. Xander was a bit intimidated about popping the balloons so the task then fell to Becca who also was not crazy about the idea. Yes, we used a screw driver to pop the balloon. It was the only thing we had in the truck...

After many right, left and stop clues we ended up at Wendy's for an after school snack. Xander was given a free shake for his birthday! After eating he opened his next clue. "What store close by us has a picture of a giraffe on it?" Why Toys R Us of course! In typical Xander fashion he literally tore into the envelope, tearing his $20 inside.

After buying a Lego Ningago set, a Star Wars Storm Trooper set and 2 Lego guys we headed over to Mulligans. The clue was, "You can see Maddie's school from this fun place!" It took a couple more clues. The kids did a game of laser tag and then we spent sometime in the batting cages.

On the day of his birthday we ran out of time so birthday yogurt was postponed till the next day. Our little prince is such a good sport sometimes. We were just staying true to my family tradition of birthday week!

Today is Xander's 8th birthday! For a school class treat he choose mini ice cream bars, just like last year! They sang happy birthday to him like a penguin first then again in their nicest voices. Then all fifty of them lined up and each wished him happy birthday as Xander handed them a treat. Now off to get Rebecca from school so that we can start our fun afternoon!

Throwing vs rolling

Becca, in an effort to repent for teaching Elle how fun it is to throw a ball, is now teaching her that rolling a ball can be equally as fun. Boo, Xander and Elle plopped down on the kitchen floor, put their toes together and rolled the ball "enthusiasticly" to each other. In other words, the ball still didn't spend much time on the floor. It always amazes me how much they enjoy playing together.

Burning oranges

So I am officially not a Pinterest poser. I have now tried a couple different things that I found while surfing and pinning. Yesterday, to the amazement of my son and nephews I made a candle out of an orange and cooking oil. When peeling the orange just be careful to leave some of the white pith stuck to the bottom of the orange. That is the wick. Fill the orange with enough oil to still have the top of the pith "wick" sticking out. Then patiently light it. It takes a little while for it to take.

Lunch with the elders

On Tuesday I had the unique opportunity to serve our local 44 missionaries lunch during one of their zone conferences. The chicken casserole was a hit but the fried flour tortillas coated in cinnamon and sugar stole the show. Dan came to my rescue and fried the last half of them so that I could attend to other last minute details. Thank you Dan for saving my butt, again.

To thank us the elders sang to my team and I and asked us to share our testimonies. I learned so much about the sisters that I serve with.

We have a wonderful new elder serving in our ward, Elder Mackall. He had dinner with us on his second night as a missionary. In a very adorable way, he looked like a deer caught in headlights all night. It was a fun night getting to know him and his companion, Elder Franks.

On Tuesday while cruising through the stake center cultural hall a message on the rolling chalk board caught my eye. It was from my newest, favorite missionary. I was happy to see he is getting more comfortable.

Becca claims this is the only position that doesn't hurt her arm. She sprained it while walking up the stairs. Story goes that she was on all fours walking like a crab up the stairs. To help my babies sleep I came came up with a lullaby for each of them. When I was pregnant with Elle I was growing sick of the nightly list of songs that I sang to Xander each night. So to spice it up I added old school songs like "Take me out to the ball game". So when Elle was born I found myself putting new words to "Home, home on the range" for her lullaby.

I am not a writer and I was usually half a sleep when I would sing to her so please forgive the simplicity of the lyrics.

Cyco sisters

Everyday after school Becca jumps out of the truck and immediately hops on her Cyco cycle and rides up to get the mail. That little ride seems to hold her over until her homework is done and she can go back out to play. Elle loves to hitch a ride. As you can see, Elle knows to throw her legs out wide to help hold her onto Becca's lap. If your safety alarm is going off, it is with good reason. Rest assured that it is safer then it looks and our becca is pro.

It's a puzzle

Yesterday while Maddie, Elle and I were checking out some garage sales we came upon a Nightmare Before Christmas puzzle. I was so surprised when Maddie said she that she thought it would be fun. I have bought puzzles in the past but they always just became dust collectors. Becca has also shown interest in being the heroine from the movie for Halloween. So 50 cents later we were the proud owners. The girls are doing a fantastic job working on it. Xander was a little jealous so we pulled out a smaller, faster puzzle for him and Dan to work on along side the girls.

Fridays have become party night in our house. Cameron, Joaquin and Kat joined us for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 1. Half way through they took a break for a soak in the hot tub. Joaquin has never seen any of the Potter movies so he and Xander got lost in lego heaven. We are now planning a weekend Potter marathon so that we can catch him up.
Cameron got a kick out of how goofy the girls get as the evening grows older. He was doing funny voices and just being funny and we were dying laughing.

Rebecca is a Young Woman!

In our faith when a girl turns 12 she can start attending the church youth group. To welcome her the gave her a "heart attack" by taping paper hearts all over our front door. She was so surprised. The hearts had personal messages written on them by the other 12 and 13 year old girls in her new class and her teachers.

It doesn't matter where we are my kids will have fun. While playing with Elle there was some cheesy music playing in the grocery store and it reminded the girls of how a guy will through a girl up in the air while dancing. So up and down the isles the girls would have Elle run to them and they would toss her into the air. The reason Elle stops in the video is because she saw that I was taking a picture and had to stop and say cheese. I think that might be a sign that we are taking too many pictures.

The neighbourhood kids started an on going water fight that has taken on a life of its own. Over the weekend it was water balloons. Now my brilliant children have taken high ground on our third floor balcony. Using buckets of water and the pool water shooters they are winning this battle. The neighbor kids now think that Dan is fair game because he is doing his fair share of water squirting. Thankfully I am still just the recipient of the nerf guns. Our own version of Mayberry.

Dan is working nights right now. He is doing freeway crossings up by the LA temple. One night he texted me that from where he was working he could see the angel Moroni statue on the top spire.

So since he has vacated his side of the bed for the night the girls wasted no time on moving in. They are sleeping so peacefully that I am not sure I want to move them. It is no wonder that Elle is such a terrible sleeper. She is used to being surrounded by those she loves 24/7. Thankfully, Elle and Becca take a nightly bath together so Boo's armpit is nice and clean.

For our after church meal we made whole wheat blender pancakes. A huge thank you to Amberly for sharing this recipe with me! What I love about this recipe is that you start with whole wheat berries and grind them up with milk in a normal everyday blender. Then you add the normal egg, oil, baking powder, honey and salt. On our second batch we added a ton of cinnamon. Yum! The kids at first had a hard time with the lack of sweetness. Maddie said they were good but that they tasted healthy. I'll take that!

Maddie needed a tank top to go under her dress for the homecoming dance so we ran to kohl's. While looking we found another dress she might like better! Mind you, this is 45 minutes before she is supposed to be picked up! Crappola!

As we were riding home from the store Becca ran into a sign! It looked like someone had not stopped when they were parking and pushed the sign over into the side walk! It actually was the second pole like thing that was hanging out in the sidewalk. We narrowly missed the first but not the second! Thankfully our Boo just got a nasty scratch from the stupid ole sign.

We needed OJ to go with our pop tarts so Becca, Kat, Elle and I rode our bikes to the grocery store. The girls also picked out a movie to watch together up in Becca's room. I love riding my bike at night.

Lovie (and Radley) join girls night

While the girls were at the football game Lovie and Radley came over for a movie. We watched a great movie called "Forks over Knives" on net flicks. Xander watched his own movie in his bed while the two little ones tried to make as big of a mess of toys as they could. Ahhh, good times. I took this picture on my phone with the camera that faces the person taking the picture. Radley belly laughs as he watches himself on the screen.

Girls night

Kat and Amira join us tonight for some quality girls time. The girls are walking to Maddie's high school to watch the home coming football game. Afterwards we are going to stuff ourselves with chocolate, giggle and watch a chick flick. Maddie and Amira have hopes of doing something fancy with their hair but we will see! (All this is possible because Dan is working nights right now.)

Radley offered to help finish Eleanor's yogurt but we had to take it on the road. About 5 minutes after getting back in the truck the back seat became real quiet. The bowl was empty but his mouth wasn't. The handsome guy fell asleep mid bite.

Amberly is out of town for a friends wedding in Utah so we get the pleasure of having Radley all day! We have played with the matchbox sets, taken jack for a walk and now are at our park. I am so looking forward to sneaking a bite of their mac and cheese lunch!

Costco

My cousin Candice turned us on to the Costco pharmacy. You do not need a Costco card. Just tell the people at the front that you are heading to the pharmacy and they will wave you through. Dan's thyroid medication is so cheap here! Another interesting note is that the price changes month to month.
